Once again Laska predictions proved to accurate (please see 12th july article), just as we said President Maithripala categorically denied rumors of his approval of Mahindas nomination in his speech to the nation yesterday (14th), he said if the walls could talk it will say of he asked the UPFA leaders to refrain from nominating him, but they still did without his consent !
he says ;
1. He will never allow Mahinda to be prime minister
2. Mahinda will loose like a dog this time as well (the dog part.. we added 
)
3. loosely interpreted he basically showed distaste & hatred toward the shameless former president wen he said “Mahinda will go down in history as the only president who contested & lost the election”
4. he wanted a parliament which will take forward the principles of the January 8 mandate, irrespective of the party.
5. The President said that his role in the general election is to ensure, free, democratic and impartial election is held and to extend his fullest support to the election commissioner, police and the officials for that purpose. “I will remain impartial in the coming election and urge the people to select those who are suitable to march forward with the January 08 mandate”
6. he made clear that it was him that ensured press freedom & now he has become a victim of it, but very soon people will know the truth and his impartiality
7. he also mentioned he wanted Ranil to ask Arjuna Mahendran (central bank chairman) to step down, proving he was unhappy about the Bond Scam
8. he said he protected Ranil by dissolving parliament before the no-confidence motion

if you know the president personally as we do, it wont be difficult understand his personality, he is the ultimate example of a true buddhists, he doesn’t seem to fully grasp the concept of malice, revenge or hatred 
he has no pride, he is filled with humility but is also extremely intelligent, for example unlike the Rajapaksa sons , his son Daham received 10 A’s for his ordinary level exam (he did not do it in a private room !) which proves his dad cant be a dud.
so then why did he allow Mahinda (who would have jailed him, had he won) to contest ? just as his name suggests its something do with maithri or compassion which takes precedence over his intelligence.
considering his nature its not too hard to believe the rumour that he may step down as the chairman of the UPFA and let the greed of the Rajapaksa clan consume themselves.
Unless something drastic happens, he is expected to make this statement in his speech to the nation
