Duminda’s Days are numbered….

Chief Justice K. Sripavan has appointed a special trial-at-bat to try MP Duminda Silva and several other suspects who were accused of killing Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

Chief Justice made this decision upon a request of the Attorney General‘s Department.

The special Trail-at-Bar will comprise the three High Court Judges including Shiran Gunaratne and Padmini Ranawaka.

Premachandra, who was an adviser to former President, and three others including his bodyguards were killed during a shootout with the same party supporters of MP Duminda Silva, who was also critically injured.

The incident took place in Mulleriyawa on October 08, 2011, during the local government election

Parliamentarian Duminda Silva today handed over a report on his assets and liabilities to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Earlier, the police sought a court order to probe the bank accounts of the Opposition MP after drug baron ‘Wela Sudha’ testified to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that he paid money to the politico.

Wela Sudha, who was arrested in Pakistan and later deported to Sri Lanka, disclosed that he paid Rs. 2.5 million to Silva as a commission.

UPFA Parliamentarian Duminda Silva and 10 others, who were accused in the killing of former Minister Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra were released under the previous bail conditions with two more sureties by the Colombo High Court today.

According to the sources, they were each ordered released on a Rs 50,000 cash bail and two personal bails of Rs 2 million and were also barred from leaving the country

UPFA parliamentarian Duminda Silva and 12 others were indicted (a formal charge or accusation of a serious crime) on 17 charges including the murder of former Presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and four others by the Attorney General of Sri Lanka.

The indictment was served to the Colombo High Court. Among the charges were the killing of Bharatha Lakshman, Dharshana Jayathilake, Mohamed Azmy and Manimel Kumaraswamy and inflicting gunshot injuries on Premachandra’s bodyguard Rajapurage Gamini and participating in an unlawful assembly.

Premachandra, a former legislator and an official of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s staff, was killed on October 8, 2011 in a shootout with MP Duminda Silva who was also critically injured.

The 12 others also indicted by the Attorney General were: Anura Thushara De Mel, Chandana Jagath Kumara, Chaminda Ravi Jayanath, Lanka Rasanjana, Malaka Sameera, Vidanagamage Amila, Sarath Bandara, Suranga Premalal, Saman Kumara Abeysinghe, Janaka Bandara, Rohana Marasinghe and Nagoda Liyanarachchige Chaminda.

Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said today that Action will be taken against UPFA Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, otherwise known as Kudu Duminda once the evidence gathered from his 20-hour long interrogation that lasted for three days at the CID office is assessed

Contrary what Hirunika Premachandra claimed recently the police spokesman said Silva who was subjected to an intense interrogation by several experienced CID detectives in the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case linked to the notorious drug trafficker Gampola Vidanalage Samantha alias ‘Wele Sudha’ concluded last evening.

The Parliamentarian was questioned on many areas related to his financial gains, various modes of income and how he had made striking donations to various public institutes including religious places, the sources said.

He was reported to have confronted with the evidence gathered from Wele Sudha’s statement that a commission of Rs.2.5million was paid by the latter. Also questions over 80 bank and financial accounts that allegedly belonged to him were raised and statements were recorded.

The MP had reported to the CID at 9.00 am yesterday and his statement was recorded till 5.00 pm. He arrived with his attorney on all three days and was given 30-minute breaks for lunch and tea during every session.
