Maria Al-Kansas was just 21 years when she bagged the title of the maiden Miss Sri Lanka Online pageant. Maria charmed online voters with her exotic beauty and charming personality.
Coming from a family with mixed heritage, her mother has Sri Lankan and Russian parentage, while her father is a syrian arab; has given her a unique blend of striking features that surely stood out from other contestants.
Born in Moscow, Maria came to Sri Lanka when she was a year old. Educated at the Buddhist Girls School in Mount Lavinia, she went on to earn her London A/levels at the British Council. She is fluent in Sinhala, Russian and English.

1) I love listening to my sister talk in Sinhala, she sounds so cute when she pronounces certain words so I purposely speak to her in Sinhala and have a little chuckle to myself when she replies.
2) The first thing I think about in the morning is breakfast, there is nothing better than the smell of traditional Russian food early in the morning. Yum!
3) l tend to sleep in…a lot…I need to have at least 8 hours sleep otherwise I look really drained for the rest of the day.
4) When I’m alone I practise my modelling poses in the mirror so I know what angles work best on me.
5) I’m a beach freak, I need to go to the beach every other day if possible.
6) I love my friends! Whenever I’m not modelling or busy with Miss Sri Lanka Online I like to hang out with my buddies.
7) I think walking (preferably on the beach) is one of the best forms of exercise there is. I go for a one hour walk at least 3 times a week.
8) Because I walk and exercise regularly I like to indulge now and then. My favourite indulgence is cookies!
9) I am the eldest sibling in my family and because of that I tend to be a bit of an attention seeker. *Blush*
10) I am very much a girly girl, I love to go shopping for shoes, handbags, clothes, makeup…much to the distress of my boyfriend.
11) I usually only like to wash my hands with lime handwash, I think the lime smell really makes your hands feel nice and clean.
12) I am an outdoors girl, I love to go for hikes in exotic locations all around our beautiful country.
13) I find travelling in public transport in Sri Lanka exciting, ever since I was little I have loved standing in the middle of a three wheeler with a family member holding me up while it sped through the traffic.
14) l chew bubble gum almost every day.
15) l think one of the nicest qualities a person could have is a sense of good humour, in life you have to be able to crack a joke and laugh at yourself now and then.
16) I’m really interested in giving back to the community and being as hands on as possible with various charities. Any charity that relates to assisting underprivileged women and children are my personal preference.
17) l am a bit of a nerd, you will usually find me surfing the net or googling up interesting things on the internet.
18) One of the happiest days of my life was when I won Miss Sri Lanka Online. It was my dream from a young age to model and one day win a title, winning Miss Sri Lanka Online made my dream come true.
19) I prefer to drink a lot of fresh fruit juices rather than water, although I try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
20) My Grandfather fascinates me, I love listening to his stories from when he was young and how times have changed.
21) My favourite flower is a blue rose, most girls love to get the traditional red rose but I like to go against the norm.
22) My Grandmother gives me cooking lessons, I still cannot cook as well as her but I’m getting there.
23) My two favourite products from that range is the Green Tea Face-Wash and Face Scrub because it leaves my skin feeling soft, supple and radiant.
24) I love animals! Especially dogs in all shapes and sizes.
25) When I finish my reign as Miss Sri Lanka Online , I would like to start studying fashion design and eventually start my own label.
